Slovenian banks offer their services to residents and non-residents. To open a bank account you need an identification document (such as a passport or ID card) and a Slovenian tax identification number. You can open an account at any of the banks, but only a few offer account information in English:

To get a personal tax identification number, you have to register with the Slovenian tax authorities. You can do that via the online form (you need a valid digital certificate) or through printed form submitted at any of the financial authorities' offices (except at General Financial Office and Special Financial Office).

The procedure takes a few days to complete. The new tax identification number is sent via post.

If you are using one of the exclusively online banks, such as N26 or Revolut and you are a tax resident of the Republic of Slovenia, you have to register your online bank account with tax authorities.
